I have heard many different statements concerning the yamaha gakki red l. The latest date code is an fg 180 with 4727 no sn built in 1972.

This is the same model as elliott smith used to play all his great songs on. I am the original owner of this beauty buying it in the summer of 1970 before heading off to college.

Ive found nippon gakki red labels with 8 digit serial numbers ranging from an fg 140 with 10521800 4554 and the latest an fg 75 with 20829541 no date code mid 1972. It may not be obvious that there were subtle changes made between about 6 months and nearly 3 years after the red label fgs became available in the beginning of 1967.
